Who and what:
MAG is a humanitarian organisation clearing the remnants of conflict for the benefit of local communities. MAG has been clearing UXO (Unexploded Ordnance) in Lao PDR since 1994. Our UXO Visitor Information Centres provide visitors with the complete UXO story. Lao PDR is the most heavily bombed nation in the world (per capita). Two million tonnes of ordnance was dropped between 1964 and 1973.
The experience:
Google Earth and bombing records have been merged to allow you to fly' over Laos using software that shows aerial bombing data and the incredible quantity of ordnance dropped. Examine a comprehensive UXO collection with detailed information. Make a donation and receive a funky t-shirt.
From Hanuman:
The Mines Advisory Group was one of the recipients of the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize for their tireless work to clear landmines and UXO around the world. Laos was heavily bombed as a spillover of the American war in Vietnam and there is much UXO littering the countryside, particularly in the south and east of the country. The Visitor Centres are an educational introduction to the problem of UXO and how it affects Laos.
