Makphet Restaurant
Website:
Who and what:
Makphet Restaurant is run by the instructors and the students. We uphold the highest standards of hygiene, use only naturally-grown ingredients and no MSG. The décor, food and the music are purely Laotian and profits help fund our activities for street children. We provide medical care and vocational training for participants. Their families are also supported with access to health care.
The experience:
Have dinner or lunch at Makphet where we serve traditional Lao food in a contemporary setting. Visit our Noi-Noi Shop, selling products made by the parents of former street children, using simple, recycled materials. The original designs reflect modern Lao style.
From Hanuman:
Part of the Friends group that also runs training restaurants in Cambodia, Makphet Restaurant serves traditional Lao cuisine in a contemporary setting. It is a great way to sample local recipes while helping disadvantaged Laotians develop their skills. Trainee staff are friendly and eager to help and the menu includes some delicious fresh fruit shakes.
